Interesting and uncommon coin of free city of Wismar under the Gustav IV Adolph rule (1792-1803) in nice condition. On the Obv. it depicts the coat of arms with the circular legend in Latin: MONETA NOVA WISMARIENSIS. The Rev. gives the denomination in Roman numerals III // PFENINGE // 1799 and initials F.L. for Friedrich Lautersack mintmaster in Rostock. Despite of occupation the coin shows the local coat of arms with 2-fold arms divided vertically, half of bull’s head of Mecklenburg on left, alternating light and dark horizontal bars on right (3 and not 2 light and 2 dark, filled with cross-hatching). The coat of arms has 4 bars, the coin depicts 5!

On this coin the word PFENINGE ends in the field and clearly shows the ligature of letters G and E. Thus the denomination on coin in 1799 was '3 pfeninge' and not '3 pfening' as in times of Adolf Frederick.
