Parr/Badger I, 194. Nicht bei Heidtmann u. Heiting/Jaeger. – Sehr seltene Foto-Dokumentation des Holocaust. – Mit Aufnahmen aus Buchenwald, Belsen, Gardelegen, Nordhausen und Ohrdruf. – „This small but important book, consisting of a mere 32 pages and 44 shocking photographs, was distributed in Germany by the American War Information Unit at the end of the World War II in order to convey to the civilian population the enormity of the crimes comitted by the Nazis in the name of the German people. Thus this book is not much more than a pamphlet, may represent the single most significant use of photography as a witness in the medium’s history. … The names of the individual comps – although now infamous – do not matter in a sense, for the pictures from each show a similar litany of horror – piles of naked corps corpses, shocked, starved survivors and stunned German civilians brought in to witness what had been happening close to their homes, without their knowledge, or with a knowledge suspended by psychological denial. Any further commentary on this book is superfluous. It might be crass to mention design in such context, but the layout was certainly given consideration by the book’s makers so that maximum impact was archieved, even with photographs as devastating as these“ (Parr/Badger). – Umschlag etwas berieben (am Rückendeckel teils stärker), leicht braunfleckig und mit kl. Randläsuren, Eckabriss am Rückendeckel restauriert, durchgehend eselsohrig und papierbedingt etwas gebräunt, noch gutes Exemplar.
