Interesting early issue with Lincoln (1809-1865) and Lincoln Memorial in attractive condition. The type was started in 1959 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the president. In this year there were two groups of coins differ by obverse: with thick and thin date. This coin is of the thick date variety, the type which was in use in this year only. Simultaneously 1974 was the only year for San-Francisco business strike of the new type of reverse with large initials FG. In addition the style of S was either tall or small with trumpet tail. This coin has tall S, being the last year of its usage. The 1974S is hard to find in circulation due to hoarding practice those days. The lack of cent coins in circulations was due to their small value and population was not in hurry to return them back. But instead of recognize this fact the Mint Authorities openly declared in August that the lack of cents are due to hoards made by speculators and that starting from next year there will no S cents minted for circulations. The result was opposite: this statement increased the hoarding of the 1974S coins.
