Interesting type with portrait of Bernardo O'Higgins (1778-1842) right in attractive condition. Recently with the help of this coin the main types of the emission were discovered and basic classification was introduced.


Obverse

Die 1 - wide epaulette, signature FR. Thenot under the sash of the Legion of Merit of Chile, left medal (for observer to the right) on a ring, wide rim.

Die 2 - wide epaulette, signature under the sash, left medal on a ring. Note. Part of mintage was struck with grounded die.

Die 3 - wide epaulette, signature under the sash, medals almost incused, left medal with additional ray at bottom.

Die 4 - wide epaulette with circle, signature under the sash, left medal on a bow, tall script to LIBERTADOR B.O'HIGGINS.

Die 5 - small portrait, narrow epaulette and the sash, medals stylized, no signature under the sash.


Reverse

Die A - PE smaller than S to PESOS, fine script, wide rim.

Die B - PE smaller than S to PESOS, fine script.

Die C - PE smaller than S to PESOS, bold script.

Die D - PE same size as S to PESOS, bold script.

Die E - PE same size as S to PESOS, serifs to PE with right angles.



Due to the discovery this coin is attributed as struck with die 5+E. The discovery is to be published in the Numista catalog en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2756.html with the images of this very coin to introduce the classification of the emission.
