The First International Symposium on Wound Healing was held from 8th to 12th April 1974 in the new premises of the Medical Faculty of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. It was designed to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas between surgeons concerned with the clinical care of wounds and the research workers from many different disciplines who are slowly unravelling the mysteries of one of the most fundamental and essential biological processes. About half of the available time was allotted to invited papers, the remainder to free paper sessions. Rather to the surprise of the organising committee, nearly all of the Speakers submitted manuscripts in good time and thus made possible this publication of the proceedings within a reasonable time after the Symposium. ...
