Beschreibung

nummeriert (No. 25 from 150) und signiert von Martin Levitt "This Book Is Composed Of Translations From Japanese Poems And A Folktale Translated By Lafcadio Hearn: All Of Which Are Illustrated By Martin Levitt. The Purpose Of This Book Is Set Forth In An Epilogue ... The poems which appear in this book were collected casually over a period of years and in some cases we are unable to identify the poet or give a date. The prints which illustrate them are not engravings; the original cuts have been used in the press. A printmaker expects to reach a wider audience than a sculptor or painter, and it seemed to us that a printmaker who made his own books could fill a need in an era when increasing numbers of people enjoy and wish to patronize the arts, but cannot afford or do not have space in their homes to accommodate large works. That is the reason for mandrill press." (Martin Levitt and Kathleen Haven) über den Künstler: no-art.info - levitt - nachruf
