Interesting and rare post note issued at Rouxville (Free Orange State) on 8 November 1898; cashed at Post Burgersdorp (Cape of Good Hope) on 10 November 1898. Commission of 3 pence was levied and three red stamps "ONE PENNY POSTAGE" were glued to the Rev. and cancelled. For the note was cancelled outside the Free Orange State, but in Cape Colony and additionally very quick it is considered much more interesting, than the common cancellation. Being the largest denomination issued in the emission and representing de facto a gold coin in 1 pond (=pound) this note was requested for circulation occasionally, which resulted in its rarity. Beautifully preserved condition. In Standard Catalog of Paper Money there is inaccuracy in year: the undated notes circulated in 1898 are hardly can be assigned as "1900."
